Product Details

Part of a series of compact Sweet Potato Vines, Ipomoea Sweet Georgia® Heart Red doesn’t require the elbow room needed for some of its cousins. The intriguing color is nearly indescribable, a dusky fawn-gold with purple veining and undersides. It’s a terrific and unusual choice for smaller pots, hanging baskets, and window boxes.

The genus Ipomoea includes over 600 species of herbaceous plants, vines, shrubs, and small trees. Ipomoea batatas is the species referred to as Sweet Potato Vine. Although native to Central and South America, it has been widely cultivated around the world for its edible tubers and ornamental foliage. Plants display heart-shaped or lobed leaves that can vary in color from deep purple to lime green, making them a popular choice for adding a splash of color to containers and hanging baskets, or grown as a ground cover. Sweet Potato Vine thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained soil; it is particularly noted for its drought tolerance once established.

Shipping
Every state has agricultural regulations that restrict the shipment of certain plants. We're sorry, but we cannot ship this item to the following states: Arizona, Arkansas, Alabama.

HOW PLANTS ARE SHIPPED

The size of the plants we ship has been selected to reduce the shock of transplanting. For some, this means a large, bareroot crown. Others cannot travel bareroot or transplant best if grown in containers. We ship these perennials and annuals in 1 pint pots, except as noted. We must point out that many perennials will not bloom the first year after planting, but will the following year, amply rewarding your patience. We ship bulbs as dormant, bare bulbs, sometimes with some wood shavings or moss. Shrubs, Roses, vines, and other woody plants may be shipped bareroot or in pots. The size of the pot is noted in the quick facts for each item.

WHEN WE SHIP

We ship our bulbs and plants at the right time for planting in your area, except as noted, with orders dispatched on a first-come, first-served basis by climate zone. We also ship a wide range of containers and planters, tools, supplies, fertilizers, garden wear, garden decor items, as well as indoor decorations like wreaths and dried bouquets when available. Estimated dates for shipping are indicated in the green Shipping Details box for each item. Please supply a street address for delivery. Kindly contact us with two weeks notice, if you'll be away at the expected time of delivery.

OUR GUARANTEE

We guarantee to ship plants that are in prime condition for growing. If your order is damaged or fails to meet your expectations, we will cheerfully replace or refund it. Please contact our Customer Service Department at 1-800-503-9624 or email us at [email protected]. Please include your order number or customer number when contacting us.

gorgeous!!

Gerri from Bridgeport, CT

I have used this for 2 years now in our condo gardens, and it is gorgeous! We have beds that are above a 3' high wall, and this plant spills over the edge and gives a great pop of color. Highly recommended. I will be buying again next year as well.

Latin Name Pronunciation: ip-oh-mee'-uh

Plant in full sun or partial shade (foliage color here in Litchfield and in hot areas of the West is best on plants that receive afternoon shade). Average garden soil. Sweet Potatoes require ample moisture and sulk at the first hint of drought. Hardy to Zone 9 (20 degrees F). Plants grow so large in a single season that they are not easily dug and brought indoors. The best way to overwinter them is to root cuttings in late summer and keep them in a sunny window.
