When Leslie Woodriff, a Lily breeder in California, created 'Star Gazer' a quarter of a century ago, it instantly set a new standard for Oriental Lilies. This fragrant hybrid grew beautifully in the average garden, and its large, upfacing blooms on strong stems were outstanding as cut flowers. This fabulous Lily has brilliant crimson flowers that are edged pure white and have a delightful fragrance. If you have ordered flowers from a florist's shop lately, you know it's still one of the best-selling Lilies (and fetches $6 per stem in our part of the country). Stems are less than 3ft tall, so they need no support.
