Growing Guide
Spring Cactus (Hatiora gaertneri)

Spring Cactus, a forest Cactus, is native to Brazil, where it grows in lightly shaded conditions. It's an easy houseplant and can spend the warmer months of the year outside. Cool night temperatures (40–50°F) and long nights (13 hours or more of continuous darkness) in the fall trigger the formation of flower buds for the following spring.

LIGHT: Provide bright light indoors (but no direct sun) near a south- or west-facing window. Can grow in light shade outdoors during the summer months.

WATERING: Water when the surface of the potting mix feels dry to the touch. Avoid overwatering (which will cause the roots to rot or the flower buds to drop) or letting the potting mix dry out completely.

TEMPERATURE: Plants grow best in temperatures of 60–80°F during the day with cooler temperatures at night. Protect from sudden changes in temperature.

FERTILIZER: From April to August, apply a balanced (20-20-20) houseplant fertilizer monthly, diluted to half strength.
