A mecca for customers and tourists from around the country, our retail store in scenic Litchfield County is surrounded by 5 acres of display gardens, open to the public free of charge. Friendly and knowledgeable garden advisors are on hand to assist with your selections, and other staff members will gladly pause to answer questions if you see them working in the borders. You’ll find a Self-Guided Walking Tour brochure at our visitors’ center to help you locate specimen trees, specific borders, and other points of interest. With advance notice, we can usually accommodate guided tours for large groups (please send inquiries to store@whiteflowerfarm.com).
Display gardens at the Store serve as testing grounds for plant combinations shown in our catalogues.
Visitors to the store can depend on finding an idea or two to try in their own gardens. Our White Welcome Daffodil mix along Route 63 announces the arrival of spring as thousands of Tulips appear in display beds around the store. The 280-foot Lloyd Border provides interest year round and was designed by Fergus Garrett, a long-time associate of the late Christopher Lloyd at Great Dixter in Sussex, England. In July and August, stunning blooms of Blackmore & Langdon Tuberous Begonias fill our Begonia greenhouse.
White Flower Farm comprises roughly 200 acres of land that have been productive for over two centuries, and it’s been our privilege to maintain the tradition and support local agriculture. A conservation easement now protects much of the pasture, forest, and wetlands. Across the street from our store and gardens, fields provide a home for naturally raised Angus cattle and Southdown sheep. When harvested, these animals produce meat that is firm in texture, lightly marbled, and intensely flavorsome. We maintain a fully stocked display cooler at our store from which visitors can select individual cuts to meet their needs. Click here to view our offering.
We hope you will pay us a visit the next time you're in the area. Litchfield is an historic New England town with much to offer, whether you have a day or a week to explore.
