Viola

The cheerful, richly colored faces of Violas are a delight in any garden or container. The plants are members of the large Viola genus, which encompasses more than 500 species in the Violaceae family, and varieties are found in temperate regions across the globe. Numbered among them are annuals, perennials, biennials, and subshrubs. Extensive hybridizing has resulted in many gradations of flower form and hardiness. The varieties we offer are reliably perennial for us. Among the most generous plants in the garden, they produce abundant blossoms over a long season that, in many cases, begins in spring and carries straight on into autumn. Violas prosper in full sun or partial shade, which is always best in the South and the warmest reaches of Zones 9 and 10 in the West. They require even moisture and will tolerate soil that is quite damp. They will not thrive in dry soil.
