A profusion of ruby red flowers displayed against a background of deep green foliage ensures that compact, reblooming Weigela Maroon Swoon® will add an elegant presence to any garden while drawing pollinators, too. These highly floriferous ornamental shrubs are tidy in habit, perfectly sized for smaller gardens, containers, and creating low hedges. The foliage emerges chartreuse in tone before maturing to dark green.

Weigela is a small genus of deciduous shrubs native to Eastern Asia, known for its trumpet-shaped flowers produced in late spring and early summer. The showy blooms beckon hummingbirds and have also attracted the interest of plant breeders.

HOW PLANTS ARE SHIPPED

The size of the plants we ship has been selected to reduce the shock of transplanting. For some, this means a large, bareroot crown. Others cannot travel bareroot or transplant best if grown in containers. We ship these perennials and annuals in 1 pint pots, except as noted. We must point out that many perennials will not bloom the first year after planting, but will the following year, amply rewarding your patience. We ship bulbs as dormant, bare bulbs, sometimes with some wood shavings or moss. Shrubs, Roses, vines, and other woody plants may be shipped bareroot or in pots. The size of the pot is noted in the quick facts for each item.

WHEN WE SHIP

We ship our bulbs and plants at the right time for planting in your area, except as noted, with orders dispatched on a first-come, first-served basis by climate zone. Estimated dates for shipping are indicated in the Shipping Details box for each item. Please refer to the Shipping Details box to determine the earliest shipping time. Please supply a street address for delivery. Kindly contact us with two weeks notice, if you'll be away at expected time of delivery.

OUR GUARANTEE

We guarantee to ship plants that are in prime condition for growing. If your order is damaged or fails to meet your expectations, we will cheerfully replace or refund it. Latin Name Pronunciation: wye-jee'luh

Weigela has a round, mounded growth habit and flowers mid-May into June.  Flowers are rather tubular in form, in small clusters. Weigela will sometimes throw off a few flowers on and off all summer, up until frost. Growth rate is moderate: 12–24″ per year depending upon conditions.

CULTURE: Grow Weigela in full sun to partial shade and average garden soil with good drainage. Space 24–30″ apart. Fertilize just once, in early spring, with 5-10-5 or 5-10-10. Weigelas blooms on prior year's growth, so remove any dead or weak twigs in early spring, and prune after bloom if plant needs a bit of shaping.

PROBLEMS: Few problems with insects or diseases.

SUGGESTED USE: Front of the perennial or shrub border, foundation planting, along pathways. Attracts butterflies and hummingbirds.
