Product Details
Not for the faint-of-heart, this Cobra Lily (Arisaema ringens) will astonish any onlooker during its spring show, when the serpentine “flower” – comprising a hooded, purple- and green-striped spathe encompassing a yellow to white flower spadix or flower spike – emerges for up to three weeks. In some plants, the spadix may turn into clusters of red berries in mid- to late summer. Equally impressive are the two large, glossy green, trifoliate leaves that remain attractive throughout the summer. These tropical-looking plants, native to East Asia, closely resemble Jack-in-the-Pulpits (Arisaema triphyllum) known to eastern North American woodlands. Like their American cousins, Cobra Lilies thrive in partial to full shade found in forest settings and wild gardens. Since they also tolerate wet soil, they are an excellent selection for rain gardens.
Growing from knobbly tubers, these dramatic and intriguing woodlanders boast the most extraordinary club-shaped spike (technically, the spadix) surrounded by a tubular, hooded cowl (the spathe) decorated in exotic striping. Best in the shade garden, and watered and fertilized when in growth. They soon build into a fat clump.

HOW PLANTS ARE SHIPPED
The size of the plants we ship has been selected to reduce the shock of transplanting. For some, this means a large, bareroot crown. Others cannot travel bareroot or transplant best if grown in containers. We ship these perennials and annuals in 1 pint pots, except as noted. We must point out that many perennials will not bloom the first year after planting, but will the following year, amply rewarding your patience. We ship bulbs as dormant, bare bulbs, sometimes with some wood shavings or moss. Shrubs, Roses, vines, and other woody plants may be shipped bareroot or in pots. The size of the pot is noted in the quick facts for each item.
WHEN WE SHIP
