Product Details

A Russian hybrid, Syringa vulgaris 'Beauty of Moscow' (also known as 'Krasavitsa Moskvy' and 'Pride of Moscow'), offers abundant double white flowers that open from light pink buds. This vigorous Lilac shrub can reach 10–12′ tall with a spread of 8′. Very fragrant and stunning in full bloom. Winner of the RHS Award of Garden Merit.

Lilacs are classic spring-flowering shrubs. They offer dense heads of lavender-blue (better known as "lilac"), deep purple, white, or wine red flowers with a strong, sweet fragrance that is, for many of us, inextricably intertwined with memories of spring visits to Grandmother's house. Most Lilacs prefer full sun and neutral to slightly alkaline soil. For reliable bloom and sweet fragrance, generally around Memorial Day, these sturdy shrubs are in a class by themselves. (Please note: Lilacs will not endure desert heat.)

HOW PLANTS ARE SHIPPED

The size of the plants we ship has been selected to reduce the shock of transplanting. For some, this means a large, bareroot crown. Others cannot travel bareroot or transplant best if grown in containers. We ship these perennials and annuals in 1 pint pots, except as noted. We must point out that many perennials will not bloom the first year after planting, but will the following year, amply rewarding your patience. We ship bulbs as dormant, bare bulbs, sometimes with some wood shavings or moss. Shrubs, Roses, vines, and other woody plants may be shipped bareroot or in pots. The size of the pot is noted in the quick facts for each item.

WHEN WE SHIP

We ship our bulbs and plants at the right time for planting in your area, except as noted, with orders dispatched on a first-come, first-served basis by climate zone. We also ship a wide range of containers and planters, tools, supplies, fertilizers, garden wear, garden decor items, as well as indoor decorations like wreaths and dried bouquets when available. Estimated dates for shipping are indicated in the green Shipping Details box for each item. Please supply a street address for delivery. Kindly contact us with two weeks notice, if you'll be away at the expected time of delivery.

OUR GUARANTEE

We guarantee to ship plants that are in prime condition for growing. If your order is damaged or fails to meet your expectations, we will cheerfully replace or refund it. Please contact our Customer Service Department at 1-800-503-9624 or email us at [email protected]. Please include your order number or customer number when contacting us.

Healthy

I ordered two bare root Beauty of Moscow lilacs just over a week ago and they arrived at my doorstep on Friday. They were beautifully packaged and had just barely started to come to life. I followed the instructions to keep them cool and dark until ready to plant. This morning I unwrapped the damp root coverings and put them to soak in a pail of tepid water for a couple hours. This afternoon I dug my planting holes, amended the soil with a bit of compost and put the lilacs into the ground. They have been watered in well and I can't wait to have some blossoms. I reckon it'll be a couple of years before they bloom but I can be patient.

Gorgeous

I limed my soil, waited a few years, and obtained the most heavenly flowers ever this year from my two Beauty of Moscow shrubs. The buds are of a delicious pale pink shaded with green. (I would love a yarn in that colorway.) Then there open up double-flowered panicles, delicate as a tutu's layers. This is such a winner.

Disappointed!

Purchased this beautiful lilac along with another lilac bush (Sensation) after reading about them on Better Homes and Gardens website and following a link to this seller. Received this plant and it arrived looking dead, but read the information that it was dormant and would begin to bud in four to six weeks. A few buds did form and it began to leaf out after which it promptly died. The Sensation lilac was received several weeks later and arrived in perfect condition, leafed out and looking nothing like the first. I contacted customer service two days ago and have yet to receive a reply and now see that this bush is no longer in stock so hopes of having it replaced are zero. First time customer here, will not purchase from them again. These bushes were part of a landscaping project and now I have a large hole in the middle where this lilac was planted.

Excellent shipping

I am very happy with my first purchase from WFF. The shipping package was sturdy and protected my shrub. I read the instructions so I soaked it for several hours before repotting my lilac in a 4gal. nursery pot. Our crazy weather snowed today. I prefer to coddle my favorite plants. She will enjoy the indoor warmth until the threat of freezing temps pass. I wish I could include pics with my review. Happy Gardening.

VERY HARDY

I kept this Lilac in a huge pot for about 15 years. It bloomed beautifully and didn't mind the shady location. After 15 years, I took pity on it and transplanted it in a sunnier part of my garden with room to spread out. Still blooms without fail. The blossoms are very large starting as pink in color and opening fully in white. Gorgeous!

Latin Name Pronunciation: sir-ing'guh

Plant Syringa in full sun (S. laciniata varieties are the exception and will perform well in partial shade). Immature lilacs produce flowers with lighter coloration; it may take 4–6 years for their true color to show.

All Lilacs require well-drained soil with pH close to neutral. Add lime if your soil is extremely acid. Fertilize once, in early spring, with a light application of an organic seaweed extract, fish emulsion, or slow-release fertilizer. Prune as necessary after bloom in spring.

S. vulgaris varieties are prone to powdery mildew, which generally appears in late summer. Mildew disfigures the leaves to varying degrees, but seems to have little effect on the vigor of the plant.
