Named for the city of Marjori in Sicily, which has a sprig of Marjoram in its coat of arms, this herb is a sweeter, more refined version of its assertive relative Oregano. You must grow and use Sweet Marjoram (Origanum majorana) fresh to experience the best of its lively and complex flavor. It forms an attractive bushy mound of small-leafed, green sprigs and is a versatile, all-purpose herb that combines well with Onions, Bay, Thyme, Basil, and Garlic.
HOW PLANTS ARE SHIPPED
The size of the plants we ship has been selected to reduce the shock of transplanting. For some, this means a large, bareroot crown. Others cannot travel bareroot or transplant best if grown in containers. We ship these perennials and annuals in 1 pint pots, except as noted. We must point out that many perennials will not bloom the first year after planting, but will the following year, amply rewarding your patience. We ship bulbs as dormant, bare bulbs, sometimes with some wood shavings or moss. Shrubs, Roses, vines, and other woody plants may be shipped bareroot or in pots. The size of the pot is noted in the quick facts for each item.

This Mediterranean native is grown as an annual in most parts of the country as it is only perennial in Zones 9-10. It can also be grown in a container and brought indoors for the winter, though it tends to become leggy. Sweet Marjoram (Origanum majorana) grows best in very well-drained soil and full sun, except in the hottest climates, where light shade will be appreciated.
