Do you have an area that receives sun in the spring but becomes shady later on when deciduous trees unfurl their leaves, or a garden that faces east and only receives morning light? If so, it's a perfect spot to grow Daffodils and Hostas together. Our collaboration includes 100 bulbs of The Works Daffodils for the South plus The Emerald Isle collection of 20 Hosta plants. We'll ship your Hostas and bulbs in the fall at the right time for planting in your area, with full instructions.
'The Works' comprises 100 large bulbs of the best and most vigorous modern Daffodils, blended from no less than 30 varieties, no more than five of each. Many of the Narcissus that grow so brilliantly in the North fail to thrive in the heat of the South, but that is no reason to be without Daffodils. Tazetta, Jonquilla, and other Narcissus strains make reliable and long-lived perennials even in Zone 8, and the species forms have naturalized throughout the region. The Works Southern Style is made up from the modern cousins of these old-timers and it performs beautifully.
Shade is calm and cool and restorative on a summer day, but it needn't be dull. Serene beauty can be had even in a tricky site like the dry shade of deciduous trees with our Emerald Isle Hosta collection, which offers 20 bareroot plants, five each of four varieties that collectively comprise the deep colors, smooth textures, and elegant traceries found in the best Hostas. In shade or partial shade, and practically any soil, these rugged plants will prosper formidably and create a summer oasis. One collection overs about 55-60sq ft.
