Pennisetum setaceum "Rubrum" is at its best in full sun (it tolerates partial shade in the South) and average garden soil. It is hardy to Zone 9 (20 °) and is difficult to overwinter in colder climates, so plants are best treated as annuals and replaced in spring. Plants may self-sow in mild-winter climates.
