PHONET: da-tour-uh
CULTURE: Hardy to zone 6-10 s&w. A strong fragrance, especially in the evening-reminiscent of Honeysuckle. Height can reach 4 feet. Full sun. Average, well-drained garden soil. Space 30" apart. Can be overwintered by potting up, and keeping in a cool, dim area, watering lightly as needed; cut back to soil level in early spring, and bring to a warm sunny window to allow growth
to start. Outdoors, fertilize once in early spring with 5-10-10 fertilizer; in pots, fertilize monthly from April through August with a water-soluble house plant fertilizer mixed at half the strength suggested on the package.
SUG USE: In mixed borders, moon gardens, or a fragrance garden and container gardening.
PROBLEM: Few problems with insects and diseases. DEER AVOID IT. All parts of the plant have toxic properties harmful to pets and people. Sometimes confused with Brugmansia (Angel's Trumpet). The flowers on Datura face upward while those on Brugmansia hang down.
