Growing Hoya
Latin Name Pronunciation: hoy' uh
Light: Hoya is a carefree, vining houseplant that prefers bright, indirect light and temperatures of 60°F and above. It can be grown outdoors in filtered light or shade, in summer, or year-round in a Zone 10-11 garden.
Watering: Less is more when it comes to watering – wait for leaves to wrinkle or feel soft, or when the top 1" of the potting mix is dry to the touch, before giving a good drink. Hoyas can tolerate somewhat dryer conditions, so water thoroughly and allow to dry our between waterings.
Fertilizer: Apply a balanced (18-18-18), water-soluble houseplant fertilizer diluted to half strength once a month during the growing season (generally April into September). Do not fertilize in winter.
