Growing Cerastium (Snow-in-Summer)
Latin Name Pronunciation: se-ras'tee-um
This large genus includes as many as 100 species, most of them low-growing annuals and perennials. Plants form spreading mats of silvery foliage that cover themselves with masses of white flowers in late spring.
Plant in full sun (or partial shade in the South) and well-drained soil. Shear after bloom to keep plants compact. Excellent for edging a border or spilling over the top of a retaining wall.
