Elderberry is a diverse group, primarily comprised of hardy deciduous trees and shrubs from North America, Asia, and Europe. Clusters of blooms appear in spring, followed by berries in midsummer.
Suggested Uses: In the shrub border, to attract birds, as a specimen planting.
Culture: Plant in full to partial sun in average garden soil. Prune hard in late winter to maintain desired size and shape, and to get the brightest foliage from yellow-leaved varieties.
