Product Details
From Connecticut’s renowned Mountain Laurel breeder Richard Jaynes, Kalmia latifolia ‘Keepsake’ has clusters of pinkish red buds that open to showy, wine-red flowers tailored with white picotee edges. The flowers are handsomely displayed against a backdrop of dark green leaves on an evergreen shrub that’s rounded and well branched. Group it with dwarf Conifers, Rhododendrons, and Azaleas, or use it to add color to foundation plantings.
This genus has just 7 species, of which only K. latifolia, our native Mountain Laurel, is widely grown. This marvelous shrub has everything. It is handsome, offering abundant clusters of cup-shaped blooms above glossy, evergreen foliage. It is durable, shrugging off cold and growing to a ripe old age in well-drained, humus-rich, acid soil. It is pest-resistant and tolerant of a range of light conditions including, in our experience, the north side of a two-story house. (Please note: Plants require afternoon shade in the South and are ill-suited to desert conditions.)

HOW PLANTS ARE SHIPPED
The size of the plants we ship has been selected to reduce the shock of transplanting. For some, this means a large, bareroot crown. Others cannot travel bareroot or transplant best if grown in containers. We ship these perennials and annuals in 1 pint pots, except as noted. We must point out that many perennials will not bloom the first year after planting, but will the following year, amply rewarding your patience. We ship bulbs as dormant, bare bulbs, sometimes with some wood shavings or moss. Shrubs, Roses, vines, and other woody plants may be shipped bareroot or in pots. The size of the pot is noted in the quick facts for each item.
WHEN WE SHIP
We ship our bulbs and plants at the right time for planting in your area, except as noted, with orders dispatched on a first-come, first-served basis by climate zone. We also ship a wide range of containers and planters, tools, supplies, fertilizers, garden wear, garden decor items, as well as indoor decorations like wreaths and dried bouquets when available. Estimated dates for shipping are indicated in the green Shipping Details box for each item. Please supply a street address for delivery. Kindly contact us with two weeks notice, if you'll be away at the expected time of delivery.

Growing guide
Latin Name Pronunciation: kal'mee-uh
Grow Kalmia in full sun or partial shade. (Partial shade or shade is best in the South; partial shade is recommended in the West). Mountain Laurel prefers well-drained, acid soil to which organic matter has been added. If you remove spent flower clusters as the blooms fade, you'll have a better show the following spring. Prune as needed after bloom.
