WEATHER PERMITTING - Working with Mother Nature

In our business, we work closely with Mother Nature. In the colder months when we stipulate that an item is shipped “weather permitting”, that means temperatures outside our shipping facility in northwestern Connecticut and along the shipping route must be warm enough for tender plants to survive in unheated delivery trucks. Our practice of waiting for windows of milder weather may result in the occasional delay, but our customers tend to appreciate the care we take to make certain their plants arrive in the very best possible condition. Questions? Don’t hesitate to call our customer service staff at 1-800-411-6159.

The size of the plants we ship has been selected to reduce the shock of transplanting. For some, this means a large, bareroot crown. Others cannot travel bareroot or transplant best if grown in containers. We ship these perennials and annuals in 1 pint pots, except as noted. We must point out that many perennials will not bloom the first year after planting, but will the following year, amply rewarding your patience. We ship bulbs as dormant, bare bulbs, sometimes with some wood shavings or moss. Shrubs, Roses, vines, and other woody plants may be shipped bareroot or in pots. The size of the pot is noted in the quick facts for each item.

We ship our bulbs and plants at the right time for planting in your area, except as noted, with orders dispatched on a first-come, first-served basis by climate zone. We also ship a wide range of containers and planters, tools, supplies, fertilizers, garden wear, garden decor items, as well as indoor decorations like wreaths and dried bouquets when available. Estimated dates for shipping are indicated in the green Shipping Details box for each item. Please supply a street address for delivery. Kindly contact us with two weeks notice, if you'll be away at the expected time of delivery.

We guarantee to ship plants that are in prime condition for growing. If your order is damaged or fails to meet your expectations, we will cheerfully replace or refund it. Please contact our Customer Service Department at 1-800-503-9624 or email us at [email protected]. Please include your order number or customer number when contacting us.

My house is my special, calming, peaceful, green forest. I have many different plants but, I wanted another Ming! The beautiful Ming Aralia is one of my absolute favorite houseplants. It is truly special, indeed. I ordered one from White Flower Farm as they are difficult to find around here. It arrived in a box that about a foot shorter than I am but, I really didn't know what to expect. It could have been a foot tall but, I carefully opened the box and inside was this majestic, gorgeous 2.75+ foot plant!! It was way better than I expected!! This was three times the size of the last one I bought from another plant retailer and less than half the price too!!! It's beautiful, bushy, green, lacy and lovely!! This is my first experience from White Flower Farm and if this is any indication of quality, I will be back for sure!! Thank you so much White Flower Farm for your quick shipping, care of the plant while in transit and quality, green, large, bushy plants!! You have earned a lifetime customer!!!! I will be back for more!!!! I truly wish I could have given 10 stars because I sure would have!!! I will also tell everyone who loves plants to shop here at White Flower Farm!!! 'Nuf said!

Ming Aralia (Polyscias fruticosa) may look something like a fine-leaf Japanese maple, but it is an evergreen shrub from tropical India and the Pacific Islands. As such, it requires warmth and humidity and will drop leaves if placed in a cold draft or below 60-degree temperature. Frequent misting keeps foliage in tip-top shape. Repot in a larger container, preferably terracotta, every year or two as your plant grows, unless you wish to keep it small. Ming aralia can reach 6' under ideal conditions. Snipping the tips of branches during spring or summer encourages denser growth.

LIGHT: Bright indirect light is best, although this plant does well with a few hours of direct morning light and can also take a fair amount of shade. Foliage may burn with too much sun or strong afternoon rays.

WATERING: Well-drained soil is a must, and consistent moisture. Water deeply and let soil dry so that it is almost (but not completely) dry to the touch between waterings. Water less in the winter dormant season; never allow the soil to become waterlogged.

FERTILIZER: When plants are in active growth from April through September, use a balanced (18-18-18) houseplant fertilizer monthly, diluted to half strength.
