Weigela florida Wine and Roses® is a selection from the Netherlands that merits your attention. Its dark burgundy leaves highlight the profusion of 1–2″ rosy pink blooms in May and June, and then add color to the garden for the rest of the season. Easily adaptable to almost any soil type, this disease-resistant shrub grows to 4–5′ with a spread of 3–5′, making it a choice addition to foundation plantings and shrub borders. A light pruning after flowering will keep growth compact, but left on their own, the branches form graceful arches. A Proven Winners®/Color Choice® variety. 'Alexandra' PP 10,772
Weigela is a small genus of deciduous shrubs native to Eastern Asia, known for its trumpet-shaped flowers produced in late spring and early summer. The showy blooms beckon hummingbirds and have also attracted the interest of plant breeders.

HOW PLANTS ARE SHIPPED
The size of the plants we ship has been selected to reduce the shock of transplanting. For some, this means a large, bareroot crown. Others cannot travel bareroot or transplant best if grown in containers. We ship these perennials and annuals in 1 pint pots, except as noted. We must point out that many perennials will not bloom the first year after planting, but will the following year, amply rewarding your patience. We ship bulbs as dormant, bare bulbs, sometimes with some wood shavings or moss. Shrubs, Roses, vines, and other woody plants may be shipped bareroot or in pots. The size of the pot is noted in the quick facts for each item.

I purchased three Weigela florida Wine and Roses bushes because White Flower Farm indicated Sun to Part Shade, but the documentation that came with the bushes indicates Sun only. I am now very concerned that I purchased three plants that will not thrive. Please let me know what to expect. The plants do look to be healthy dormant plants and were packed well. I will update to more stars if the plants do well.
When we trialed this Weigela is our display and trial gardens, we found it to be a reliable performer in both full and part sun locations. If you do not find this to be your experience, please do contact the company.A viewer from MA

Weigela has a round, mounded growth habit and flowers mid-May into June. Flowers are rather tubular in form, in small clusters. Weigela will sometimes throw off a few flowers on and off all summer, up until frost. Growth rate is moderate: 12–24″ per year depending upon conditions.
CULTURE: Grow Weigela in full sun to partial shade and average garden soil with good drainage. Space 24–30″ apart. Fertilize just once, in early spring, with 5-10-5 or 5-10-10. Weigelas blooms on prior year's growth, so remove any dead or weak twigs in early spring, and prune after bloom if plant needs a bit of shaping.
PROBLEMS: Few problems with insects or diseases.
SUGGESTED USE: Front of the perennial or shrub border, foundation planting, along pathways. Attracts butterflies and hummingbirds.
