Many Tuberous Begonias have flowers too heavy for their stems to support. These stakes, made especially for Blackmore & Langdon in England, are expandable from 14–22″. Their U-shaped tops are dipped in soft plastic to cushion the stem. For show work they are indispensable. Set of 5 stakes.
HOW PLANTS ARE SHIPPED
The size of the plants we ship has been selected to reduce the shock of transplanting. For some, this means a large, bareroot crown. Others cannot travel bareroot or transplant best if grown in containers. We ship these perennials and annuals in 1 pint pots, except as noted. We must point out that many perennials will not bloom the first year after planting, but will the following year, amply rewarding your patience. We ship bulbs as dormant, bare bulbs, sometimes with some wood shavings or moss. Shrubs, Roses, vines, and other woody plants may be shipped bareroot or in pots. The size of the pot is noted in the quick facts for each item.

As a tuberous begonia lover, I am always looking for just the right props to hold up the heavy flowers and plants of my collection. These stakes are a good concept, but too long and too stiff for my purposes. The coated wire holder at the end of the stake is great to cradle flowers, and the fact that they are expandable is a great concept, but even in the shortest adjustment, they were too tall for my begonias. I would find these stakes really useful if they started at 8 inches rather than 14, and had more flexible wire near the top to adjust to the shape of the plants. I am going to try them with the amaryllis stalks this winter.....I'll let you know how that goes.
