Product Details

Strawberry Drop is a sun-tolerant, attractively trailing Coleus with smaller, closely arranged foliage that adds a special touch to plant combinations. The leaves are symmetrically patterned in crimson and green with central flares of strawberry-and-cream. They associate well with foliage and flowers in all these shades. 'Kakegawa CE5' PP 15,827

The endlessly colorful foliage of Coleus is making a comeback as gardeners rediscover old varieties and breeders introduce new ones. Our selection offers a diversity of foliage color, leaf shape, and growth habit, and they all make glorious container subjects. Though most tolerate full sun, they are more valuable in shade, where summer color is scarce.

The size of the plants we ship has been selected to reduce the shock of transplanting. For some, this means a large, bareroot crown. Others cannot travel bareroot or transplant best if grown in containers. We ship these perennials and annuals in 1 pint pots, except as noted. We must point out that many perennials will not bloom the first year after planting, but will the following year, amply rewarding your patience. We ship bulbs as dormant, bare bulbs, sometimes with some wood shavings or moss. Shrubs, Roses, vines, and other woody plants may be shipped bareroot or in pots. The size of the pot is noted in the quick facts for each item.

We ship our bulbs and plants at the right time for planting in your area, except as noted, with orders dispatched on a first-come, first-served basis by climate zone. We also ship a wide range of containers and planters, tools, supplies, fertilizers, garden wear, garden decor items, as well as indoor decorations like wreaths and dried bouquets when available. Estimated dates for shipping are indicated in the green Shipping Details box for each item. Please supply a street address for delivery. Kindly contact us with two weeks notice, if you'll be away at the expected time of delivery.

We guarantee to ship plants that are in prime condition for growing. If your order is damaged or fails to meet your expectations, we will cheerfully replace or refund it. Please contact our Customer Service Department at 1-800-503-9624 or email us at [email protected]. Please include your order number or customer number when contacting us.

Very small and spindly plant

All the perennials I have ordered from White Flower Farm over the last twenty or more years have been terrific. This year I tried a few plants that are annuals in my area and I was disappointed when I unpacked the box. I would have passed over this leggy, anemic-looking coleus at my local garden center, especially for the price. I realize the late shipping was beyond WFF's control (because of COVID), but the quality of the plant was not. Disappointing. I will stick perennials in the future!

Exceeded my expectations

When I received the plants they appeared limp and pale in color. Immediately after potting them, they bounced back in no time. They have grown tremendously and have exceeded my expectations. Don't be fooled when they arrive. They will grow into beautiful healthy plants.

I purchased 3 Coleus 'Strawberry Drop', received three plants, but not the same thing. One looks like 'Strawberry Drop' with the pink center, the other two however more vigorous, are a different variety with dark maroon centers. Lovely plants, but not 'Strawberry Drop'.
I just now noticed that 'Strawberry Drop' shipping has been replaced by another variety altogether.

Gorgeous summer after summer!

I never write reviews but I have to rebut the one for strawberry drop. It may not arrive looking good, but each plant grows hugh, and while the leaves are not large, there is an abundance. Each plant completely fills a large area and looks wonderful. Don't be done in because they arrive scrawny and yellow.

This product is not what I'd hoped for

This is so disappointing. The plants are tiny, and have leaves that look yellow, not pink. My coleus arrived drenched. I am trying to nurse them back to health. They are also minute, and I feel really ripped off.

Latin Name Pronunciation: ko'lee-us

Traditionally, Coleus have been terrific foliage plants for shade, but many of the new varieties are also quite tolerant of sun. Variations in light intensity can have a dramatic impact on leaf color and plant size. Their diversity of foliage color, leaf shape, and growth habit make Coleus a valuable container and bedding plant, especially in shade where summer color is scarce.

All Coleus prefer evenly moist garden soil. Where the growing season is long, pinch the tips of the stems regularly to encourage branching and compact growth. If you grow Coleus in containers, we recommend that you incorporate a timed-release fertilizer at planting time. We also suggest using a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every two weeks for plants in containers; in the ground, once a month is enough, with the fertilizer diluted to half-strength. Hardy only to Zone 10, plants cannot withstand frost without damage. In colder climates, plants can be overwintered without difficulty on a sunny windowsill, or take tip cuttings in early fall to start new plants. Coleus root very readily.

It is commonly recommended that the blooms of Coleus be removed as soon as they appear because they detract from the foliage display. Bloom is sparse on the varieties we offer, and the small lavender-blue flowers are neither unattractive nor very showy; it hardly seems worth the trouble to cut them off.
